This is our way of saying “thank you” and shining a light on their strength, resilience, and leadership.
“Maherau Arona is a dedicated community leader and advocate actively involved in initiatives that empower Pacific communities in New South Wales, Australia.
Her work spans multiple sectors, including youth development, sports mentorship, women’s empowerment, and community engagement.
Key Roles & Contributions: • Pacific Islands Mt Druitt Action Network (PIMDAN): Maherau collaborates with community leaders to address social justice issues, develop policies, and implement programs that benefit Pacific communities in the Mt Druitt area.
- CORE Pacific Collective: As part of this advocacy group, Maherau works towards better support services for Pacific communities, promoting leadership and cultural values.
- Pacific Women’s Professional & Business Network (PWPBN): A former executive board member of PWPBN, Maherau played a key role in empowering Pacific women through leadership, education, and economic opportunities.
- Youth & Community Development: Passionate about mentorship and coaching, Maherau works closely with young Pacific individuals to help them navigate career and personal development while maintaining their cultural identity.
- Sports Mentorship & Coaching: Through sports coaching, Maherau instills values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience among young athletes, using sports as a pathway for leadership and empowerment.
- Women’s Empowerment: She actively advocates for gender equality and provides support networks for Pacific women and girls through various leadership programs.
- Current Role – Mission Australia: Maherau is currently working at Mission Australia, where she focuses on community development, social justice, and advocacy for marginalised communities.
Personal Mission: Maherau is deeply committed to creating inclusive, resilient, and empowered Pacific communities by promoting education, leadership, and cultural preservation. Her work continues to uplift and advocate for Pacific voices across various sectors”
