Listening to Our Bodies Taking a Preventive Step Cancer Screening for Pacific Women in NSW
On July 24th, 2024, the Pacific Women’s Professional and Business Network (PWPBN), in collaboration with the Pasifika Moving Program through NSW Health, hosted over 20 Pasifika women at the Emerton Youth Recreation Centre.

The event focused on the importance of cancer screening and early detection. PWPBN extends heartfelt thanks to Dora Onesemo and Yvonne Peacock from the Western Sydney LHD for their collaboration through the Pasifika Moving Program.

The resounding message of the day was clear: “Listen to your Body.” The session began with a healing Hula performance by Tele, highlighting the profound connection between dance and healing. This heartfelt start set the tone for the day, reminding the women of the power of listening to their bodies.

Retired nurse Ofa Fineangaofo and Nurse Yvonne Peacock provided essential information on the cancer screening process, emphasising how regular screenings can be life-saving. They stressed the importance of regular check-ups, staying active, and eating healthy as part of prioritising one’s health. The day was filled with knowledge, solidarity, and support. Courageous women who had gone through the cancer journey shared their stories, reaffirming the vital message that early detection saves lives. Their testimonies underscored the importance of listening to our bodies. Let’s continue to raise awareness, support each other, and take proactive steps to change outcomes. Stay informed and stay empowered!
